PHASE 1: Orientation

  • Site-Specific Department Layout Introduction

  • Detailed-Overview of Site-Specific Documentation Software (i.e. Epic, OPTUMInsight, eClinicalWorks, McKesson, etc.)

  • EMR structure

  • Typing Speed Training/Testing

  • History of Present Illness (HPI) formulation, Review of Systems (ROS) layout, Past Medical/Surgical History (PMH) documentation

  • Video Clinical Scenarios

  • Basics of Coding

  • Documentation for Medical and Legal Liability

  • HIPAA Compliance

  • Professionalism

PHASE 2: Training

(40 hours)

  • One-on-One Clinical Site Training with an Experienced Scribe

  • Logging In and Out

  • Correct Documentation into EMR of Orally Provided History and Physical Exams

  • Correct Documentation of Laboratory and Radiology Interpretations as well as EKG studies

  • Awareness of Ancillary Staff and Their Roles on Patient Cases

  • Accurate and Correct Documentation of an Attestation according to the Joint Commission (JCAHO)

  • Real-Time Chart Review with Corrective Constructive Feedback

  • Ability to Recognize HIPAA Violations

  • HIPAA Compliance Exam

  • Post Clinical Site Training Exam

  • Final Exam (Upon Completion of Orientation and Training)

PHASE 3

  • Maintenance of Scribe Success Through Continuing Scribe Education

  • Quarterly Performance Assessments

  • Bi-Monthly Team Meetings to Maintain our Superior Level of Service
